Hateful or Grateful?
Are you "Grumbly hateful" or are you "Humbly grateful"? Those clever words didn't originate with me but they certainly caught my attention this morning as I listened to the radio.
Which is it? I've been both. Both in the same day, in fact. Grumbly hateful while driving. Humbly grateful while talking to God.
It's a choice. Some days it's a hard choice. But no matter what the circumstances or who we're with, it's still a choice. And that choice says a lot about a person.
Whether a person is becoming bitter or better. Growing or diminishing. Whether he's mature or immature. Selfish or selfless. Self-centered or God-centered.
A grumbly hateful attitude destroys others. A humbly grateful attitude builds up and brings life to others.
What'll be?
Grumbly hateful?
Or humbly grateful?
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:29-32)
