Prince of Peace

I thought I’d get away to a quiet place this morning and write my blog for Friday but I made the mistake of reading the Facebook comments about the presidential debate. I was stupid enough to try to watch it. I lasted about 5 minutes. This post is not political in any way because I won't reveal which person I am leaning toward. All I have to say is we have a lot of brilliant, qualified people in this country and this is what we present as our candidates?

Are you kidding me??

I need to pull back, take a deep breath and get some perspective.

The bottom line is that good leaders and bad leaders have come and gone throughout the centuries of human history. One thing remains. Jesus Christ reigns over all eternity. He was there in the beginning. He is very present now. And He will be very present forever and ever.

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross." (Colossians 1:15‭-‬20)

“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of Lords.” (Revelation 19:11‭, ‬15‭-‬16)

“Behold, I [Jesus] am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:12‭-‬13)

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this." (Isaiah 9:6‭-‬7)

I don’t know about you, but I know that I am very grateful that my true citizenship is in God’s Kingdom. His Kingdom is the only one that will last. And because of that I don’t need to fret or be anxious about today’s ugly political scene. For now, while I am a sojourner here on earth, I will do my best to pray for our leaders and show respect for them, difficult as that might be (I had to add that). Jesus, we need your help!

I also think we need to continually remind ourselves of God’s power and majesty and sovereignty. Nothing about the year 2020 has surprised Him. He does not sit in heaven wringing His hands, saying, “Woops! I didn’t see that coming!”

And in His great power and love and omniscience, He invites us to trust Him.
