The Unseen World

The Unseen World

I am a nature lover. I love to take walks in the woods, always with my camera. I love to try to identify trees and flowers and insects. I like to pay attention to the little things around me in nature. Yet even with my love of nature, I'm still blind to all the life that is going on around me all the time. If you took a square foot patch of grass and studied it long enough, you'd be amazed at how much life you would discover in that little area. Or if you took time to study the bark of a tree, you'd be surprised at the variety of life on it and under it.

The interactions of living organisms is also remarkable! A few days ago I stopped and watched dragon flies fluttering around a fallen tree in the creek that passes under our little bridge. As I watched, a different looking dragon fly entered the scene and seemed to attack. Back and forth the battle continued. Was it a battle? Or were they playing? Or was it a mating dance? I don't know. I just know it was fascinating.

The art work of the Creator is breathtaking if we take time to enjoy it. When was the last time you took a walk outside and turned your closed eyes toward the sun? When have you simply stood still and engaged all your senses? Felt the soft wind in your hair and on your skin. Smelled the damp, moist earth and the green of the leaves. Heard as the wind plays with the forest. You can even engage your taste buds. If you see a red clover or honeysuckle, pull the petals out and lick the sweetness at the exposed ends. Pick a persimmon off the tree and pop it in your mouth. That will certainly engage your taste buds!

All of this life is happening continually around us whether we're aware of it or not. There's another world continually at work in and around us as well. One that we are pretty blind to most, if not all, of the time.

The spiritual world.

The Kingdom of God and the kingdom of the enemy.

If our Spiritual eyes could be miraculously opened right now what would we see? Elisha's servant had his eyes miraculously opened at a critical moment. The king of Syria sent his army to capture Elisha. When Elisha's servant woke he was terrified at the sight.

"When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, 'Alas, my master! What shall we do?' He said, 'Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.' Then Elisha prayed and said, 'O Lord , please open his eyes that he may see.' So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha." (2 Kings 6:15‭-‬17)

The Bible has a lot more to say about this; Might you possibly have entertained an angel? "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." (Hebrews 13:2)

Have you ever fought your enemy? "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12)

Has there been a time when, at God's command, an angel has protected you? "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways." (Psalm 91:11)

"as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18)

But never forget, if you have received Jesus as your Savior, you are indwelt by God the Holy Spirit!

INDWELT!

That's way better than the remarkable spiritual world that is all around us! He is IN US!!!

And, never forget; "He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." (1 John 4:4)

Walk, therefore, in this world and in this unseen world, full of joy and amazement and victory!
