In the Eye of the Storm
As I sit here in my car in the quiet morning darkness with snowflakes falling around me, I'm disturbed. Deeply disturbed.
But then a beautiful song started playing over the radio reminding me once again whose I am and who's in control.
This is the morning after the horrific events in Washington DC. The peaceful protest that got ugly. Thugs, from who knows where, stormed the capital building and managed to get inside.
I have friends and family on both sides of the political aisle, many claiming to be Christians. I can barely bring myself to look at the hatred being spouted on Facebook right now. Many people on both sides are sure their side is completely right and the other side is completely evil.
I recently watched the movies “Nanny McPhee” (based in Victorian England, released in 2005) and “Nanny McPhee Returns" (based in England during WW1, released in 2010) starring Emma Thompson. I sure wish a Nanny McPhee could show up in America right about now. A little bit of her evil eye and child-rearing tactics might do some good with some of our self-serving, immature, short-sighted, political leaders. And some of those people who are quick to vent with destructive words, photos and videos on social media.
The thing is; all of them will have to stand before God someday. And I have a feeling there will be a lot of squirming going on. Their fancy talk and whining won’t serve them well. The truth will come out eventually.
But for here and now, none of us really knows the truth behind what happened on January sixth. None of us truly knows what happened during this messed up election. Many think they know, but they're naive if they cling to those shaky rumors.
Only God knows.
The sad thing is that even if the truth is revealed with tons of evidence, the other side will choose to ignore it. If it doesn't buoy up the agenda of the media, they won't report it.
Confusion and lies rule the day.
And guess what the Bible calls Satan? The author of confusion and the father of all lies. Satan is having a heyday!
But God never says, “Woops! I didn't see this coming!”
Satan may be dancing in the streets of DC, but God…
God never loses control.
This is the song that I heard this morning.
In the eye of the storm
You remain in control
And in the middle of the war
You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor
When my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me
In the eye of the storm
“Eye of the Storm”, lyrics by Ryan Stevenson
Listen to it here. It’s beautiful, soul-stirring, and Biblical.
