Love Is

Love Is

As we are approaching Valentines Day I can't think of a more appropriate scripture than 1 Corinthians 13. I heard someone once give advice to a young woman who was dating a guy. She was told to insert her boyfriend's name in the appropriate places to see if he measured up. John is patient. John is kind. John is not arrogant or rude. John is... fill in the blank.

I have a better idea. Insert your own name. How do you measure up? Ouch!

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-‬7)

Only by the power of God at work in us can we attain this level of love. “for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)

Happy Valentines Day, y'all!!!

(I grew up in Vermont so saying “y'all" is a stretch! Here I am, stepping out of my Yankee comfort zone.)
